Chris Koutures, MD, FAAP

Dr. Koutures  practices general pediatrics, sports medicine and performing arts medicine in Anaheim Hills, CA.  He is American Board of Pediatrics Certified in both General Pediatrics and Sports Medicine.  

Among his current positions are as a team physician for the US Men's and Women’s National Volleyball Teams, Cal State University-Fullerton (where he is also medical director for the Athletic Training Education Program), Chapman University, (where he also oversees athletic training students and provides medical services to the Dance Department), for Orange Lutheran and Northwood (Irvine) High Schools, and for the OC On Stage Performing Arts Medical Network.  He previously served as Team Physician for the USA Volleyball and Table Tennis teams at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, China, and also worked with USA Volleyball and the US Olympic Committee at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The co-author of the textbook, Pediatric Sports Medicine: Essentials of Office Evaluation  (SLACK, 2013), Dr. Koutures recently completed a six-year terms as an elected member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness, and currently edits the biannual newsletter for that group. He has authored many medical publications, and speaks regularly on sports medicine topics and mentors residents at UC Irvine/Children's Hospital of Orange County, and across the country, on such topics as concussion management, overuse injuries, performing arts medicine, and injury prevention strategies/programs.  

Dr. Koutures earned a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from UCLA, where he was also a four-year sportswriter for the Daily Bruin.  He obtained his M.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also completed a pediatric residency. Returning to Southern California, he further specialized in sports medicine with a one-year fellowship training at UC San Diego.

An avid athlete growing up, Dr. Koutures remains active in athletics, with a particular interest in mountain biking and yoga.
