Donald C. Collins, JD

Donald C. Collins is the Commissioner of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), San Francisco Section, a longtime basketball and track official, and former attorney.
 
A member of MomsTEAM.com’s Team of Experts, and of MomsTEAM Institute’s Board of Advisors, Mr. Collins has been a frequent MomsTEAM contributor on a variety of topics, including officiating, violence in youth sports, and Title IX, and has also authored numerous articles on sports administration, sportsmanship, and legal issues affecting sports officials for a number of other publications.  
 
As a sports official, Mr. Collins most recently officiated the long jump at the CIF State Track Championships and the discus, javelin, shot put and long jump at the US Paralympics National Championship, and served a four year term on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO).   He has also been involved in the drafting of legislation to give sports officials independent contractor status and criminalizing assaults and batteries on officials.
 
Before beginning his full-time work in athletics, Mr. Collins was a staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and taught legal writing at Hofstra University Law School, and in the paralegal program at Sonoma State University, where he served in the compliance office of the university's athletic department.
 
Mr. Collins received his B.A. in Accounting from Xavier University of New Orleans and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
