SmartTeams Talk: Enacting Pro-Active Policies To Prevent Sudden Death in Youth Sports Presents Challenges, Says KSI's Casa

Douglas J. Casa, Ph.D., ATC of the University of Connecticut and Korey Stringer Institute argues that youth sports safety policies need to be developed and implemented by sports medicine professionals, not athletic administrators, notes that the level of risk of catastrophic sports injury unfortunately depends largely on how a state athletic association responds to the death of athletes in their state, some by enacting pro-active policies, some, unfortunately, by doing nothing, and views as "extremely positive" the results of a KSI survey finding that certified athletic trainers now provide coverage to fully 85-90% of all high school athletes in the U.S.
